No, you don't. Those iron duke 4cyls were absolute turds, especially in the S-10. Hell, the S-10 hardly had any power to get out of it's own way with the 4.3 V6.

If that the same 4 cylinder that ended up under the hood of the Chevy Astro, it makes like 95 horsepower. Would much rather have 2.8 or 4.3.

That fat ass cat could outrun the Iron Duke. That fat ass cat could outrun the Iron Duke at a brisk walk.
Also, your cat is adorable.

Real s-10s have a 4.3

Disagree. The 2.5 will clatter and chug it's way to hell and back. Thrice. They're abnormally hard to kill and that's a scientific fact. The 2.8 that was optional in these early S10s was just terrifying. It shed intake and head gaskets with alarming frequency and just didn't stand up very well. They just weren't well suited to truck-duty. They all died young.
All of them.
Every single one.
The 4.3 in the later S10, while very good on power (and you're either very naive or just plain wrong if you disagree with that), also changed the character of the truck. People miss the point of small trucks: doing lots of work with the absolute minimum amount of truck possible. That's what made the Toyota and Nissan popular in the 80s. An S10 with a 4.3 was just too... easy. Might as well have bought a C/K1500.
The 4-cylinder S10 and Ranger continues to be under-appreciated by people who have never owned them (not merely drove one). Especially the early carboretted, hose-out-interior, manual everything versions. They were honest and hard-working in a way that anything after the Multi-Point Fuel Infection Revolution is not. "Arm-strong power steering". Notchy transmission with 8 inch shift throws. Vague cable clutch engagement. No tachometer. Bench seats. Sliding rear window about 2 inches from the back of your head. Torque in quantities so small that you had to actually THINK about what you were doing when you had a load in the bed. "Can I pass him?" If you gotta ask, you can't. THESE are the qualities that made these little trucks great! THIS is what made them fun to own!
That, and not making enough power to hurt itself was a bonus too.

You DO want this truck, and I want to rub your kitty's belly. I'll bring the laser pointer too.

He's fantastic. Highly recommend the breed. Super soft-dense fur that doesn't shed a lot, he doesn't care WHERE you pet him, not aggressive, but he likes to let his will known to the world when he wants to go outside.
Also 2cute.

He is 2cute2poot. Soft as hell, too.
I keep telling my friend to get a 4300 Vortec instead of wasting time on that engine.

Your friend should get a LS instead of wasting time on the I4 or the V6.

My experience with the 4.3 comes from the one I had in my 88 s10. Even with headers and a full catback exhaust the thing was not fast. At all. I'm talking 17.6 in the 1/4 at 72mph. It's amazing how slow the thing was, honestly.
The 2.8 was a complete dog, I'll give you that. Stepdad had an 86 with the 2.8. What a pile of shit that engine was.
And I'll just agree to disagree with your opinions of the Iron Duke. I get what you're saying in that they won't die. But they just aren't a very good or efficient engine. I think the Japanese had it much better with their small pickups.
As for small pickups themselves, I LOVE them. It actually really pisses me off that no one makes a truly small truck anymore. I'd own one if they did. As a matter of fact I said this exact same thing yesterday. With CAFE the way it's going, I'm surprised automakers aren't making small trucks. For every small truck that can pull down 30mpg (which shouldn't be THAT difficult) they can sell two that get 18 mpg. Just makes good business sense to me.

My girlfriend has a Tonkinese that sheds like a mofo, wants her belly rubs only when she wants her belly rubs, and is quite the nuisance when she's hungry, but she's also pretty old (like, 17 or something, she was an adopted rescue).
But he's adorable! I'll add one like that to the list of cats I want, shortly after Scottish Fold and another Tonkinese.

Yup. Russian Blues are pretty well-regarded cats. Some of them even manage to not be complete lardasses like mine :P
